MORE ABOUT OUR GRADS!

Talk to UT Grad Randy Bayas. He’ll tell you to talk to us.

Randy Bayas

Bayas was about to graduate from the University of Texas with a B.A. in Biology and with no job in sight. He applied for everything from lab research assistant to national park tour guide to manual laborer at a fish hatchery. Two hundred applications later, not one interview or offer.

Three months later, the 24-year-old landed a plum job in the Health Information Technology (HIT) field as a training specialist for an Electronic Health Record (EHR) vendor company.  How?  Bayas was accepted into the Summer Health Informatics and Health IT Professional Education Program. During the six-week program, HIT professionals came and spoke to Bayas and his classmates. He received hands-on experience working with six different EHR systems. Then Bayas went off to a three-week practicum where he saw healthcare up close and personal working at an HIT-related organization. HIT faculty worked with Bayas on everything from his resume to interview skills, and transformed him from an unmarketable job seeker to someone that received multiple job offers from several EHR companies.
